The question we want to know is why...? We are obviously talking about the recent purchase of Emagic by Apple and the subsequent announcement that as of September 1, 2002 there will be no more PC development of their market leading sequencing software Logic™. Cakewalk and Cubase must be rubbing their hands with glee at the disappearance of their common foe from the PC market, while the 90,000 PC Logic users who have committed to the E-magic road map must be left feeling a little dazed and confused. PC based Logic™ users account for up to 35% of the total - so Apple must be pretty confident that they will be able to entice some of those users to change system. There is also a theory that maybe Apple have half an eye on the future and by purely developing Logic along the Unix route, they will achieve great cost savings and potentially open up the product to more users. Will the gamble pay off?
